A Khmer-Krom Buddhist Monk, Venerable Thach Thuol, Concerns about His Safety

On December 23, 2010, VOKK broadcasted an interview between the VOKK’s reporter and Venerable Thach Thuol who has been summoned many times by the Vietnamese authorities regarding to his connection with Venerable Kim Muol. Venerable Kim Muol used to be imprisoned by the Vietnamese government because of involving with the peaceful demonstration to demand for religious freedom in Kampuchea-Krom. Ven. Kim Muol is currently living in Sweden as a political asylum seeker.

Ven. Thach Thuol told VOKK that he was summoned to meet a Vietnamese government’s secret agent at an unknown and very scary place which is not at the police station. He said that he could get kill easily if that secret agent wants to. He told Ven. Thach Thuol that his name is Phuong. He asked Venerable Thach Thuol to work for him as a secret agent to report where Venerable Kim Muol is currently living in Sweden and write monthly report for him. If Ven. Thach Thuol agrees, he would receive monthly salary and a mobile phone. Ven. Thach Thuol refused to work as a secret agent for him. Thus, Ven. Thach Thuol was asked to meet the Vietnamese government’s secret agent (named Phuong) and also his boss this Friday, December 24, 2010.

Ven. Thach Thuol concerns about his safety. He appeals to the Human Rights Organizations around the world to help protecting him and his fellow Buddhist monks at Traset temple in Vinh Chau district, Soc Trang province.
