An overseas group of advocates has requested the government improve its support for the Khmer Kampuchea Krom in both Cambodia and Vietnam.

“They should send professional teachers and books from Cambodia to teach our Khmer Krom in Vietnam,” said Thach Ngoc Thach, head of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom Federation, which is based in New Jersey.

KHMER Krom asylum seekers who were deported by Thai authorities earlier this month say they will face arrest and likely reprisal if they are forcibly returned to Vietnam.

The 24 Khmer Krom, as members of Vietnam’s Khmer minority are known, were deported to Cambodia on December 5 and are being sheltered by NGOs in Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet town.

Preah Trapeang, Kampuchea-Krom - From October 20 – 23, 2009, One hundred Seventy One Khmer-Krom Buddhist monks in Preah Trapeang (Tra Vinh) were forced to attend three days training about the National Security and Defense Policies at Kampong Temple in Tra Vinh provincial town. If the Khmer-Krom Buddhist monks refused to attend the training, they would be accused and faced the imprisonment.

A Cambodian Buddhist monk in the US has applied meditation to help reduce stress disorders for Cambodian-Americans traumatized by the Khmer Rouge.

At his Khemara Rangsey temple, Thach Berong, of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom Federation’s Theravada Buddhist Community, in San Jose, Calif., says he wants to help reduce the stress and illness that can come from prolonged trauma.
